How to Split a PDF
Long documents are rarely needed in full. Somebody asks for the annex, not the two-hundred-page contract; the form requires page four of your bank statement, not all sixteen; a colleague needs one chapter of the manual. Sending everything is unhelpful at best, and often shares far more than intended.
Splitting extracts the pages you choose into a new document, leaving the original untouched. This guide covers doing it in the browser and choosing sensibly between extracting pages and deleting the rest.

- Sending one specific page — a signature page, a certificate, a single statement page — instead of a whole file.
- Separating a scanned stack that contains several unrelated documents into individual files.
- Sharing one chapter of a long report with someone who has no reason to see the rest.
How to split a PDF step by step
Open the Split PDF tool
Go to the Split PDF page. Everything runs in the browser, with nothing to install and no account to create.
Upload the document
Drag the PDF onto the upload area or select it from the dialog. Encrypted files need unlocking first.
Select the pages to keep
Click the pages you want in the new document. Zoom into a thumbnail when pages look alike — statements and forms are easy to confuse at thumbnail size.
Extract
Run the extraction. A new document is built from your selection, in the order the pages appear in the original.
Download and check
Download the result and read it through. This matters more than usual when you are splitting to avoid sharing something — check what came out, not just what you meant to select.
Common problems and how to fix them
You extracted the wrong pages
The original is untouched, so simply upload it again and reselect. Zooming into the thumbnails before extracting prevents most of these mistakes.
You need several separate documents
Run the extraction once for each output document, selecting a different set of pages each time. Each run produces its own file from the same original.
The document is password-protected
Encrypted files cannot be split directly. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then extract.
Splitting versus deleting pages
Split when you want a small document out of a large one. You name the pages to keep, which is both quicker and safer than naming the many pages you do not want — particularly when the point is to avoid sharing something.
Delete pages when the document is nearly right as it stands and a handful of pages have to go. The two tools are complements: extract to create something new, delete to clean up what you already have.
자주 묻는 질문
Is the original document changed?
No. A new file is created from the pages you selected; your original is left exactly as it was.
Can I extract non-consecutive pages?
Yes. Select any combination of pages and they are assembled into one document in their original order.
Does the extracted file lose quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, with no re-encoding.
Can I split a protected PDF?
Not directly — remove the password with Unlock PDF first.
How do I get several documents from one file?
Repeat the extraction with a different page selection each time.
Is there a limit on document size?
Up to 100 MB per file, with no limit on pages or on how many documents you split.
